Sister Mary Bernardine (Sister Helena Irene Sabo) a Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario, died in Pembroke on the 26th day of November, 2018 in the 83rd year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her Religious Community and devoted nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Vendelin and Katarina (Mayer), her brother Rodney and sisters Ann Nemes, Elizabeth Varga and Mary Cosby and special friend Mrs. Emma De Angelis. Sister Bernardine was born on November 18, 1915 in Wilsonville, Ontario. She entered the Community on January 29, 1935, pronouncing her final vows on July 28, 1939. She served in various areas including the Housekeeping Department at the Pembroke General Hospital for 18 years and Dietary Supervision in Windsor, Port Credit, Timmins, Pembroke, Vancouver and at St. Patrick’s Home, Ottawa, where she ministered in several capacities for 26 years. She lived her final years peacefully at Shalom Residence, Pembroke.
