Obituary for Denis Montgomery

Denis Joseph Montgomery

Peacefully, in the arms of his wife, Denis Montgomery, age 62, at the Ottawa Hospital on December 22, 2022.

Deeply loving and deeply loved, the sun and the moon to wife Anna Bacciaglia and children Anthony, Maria and Matteo. Beloved son-in-law of Nelson and Velma Bacciaglia. Dear brother to Sharon, Terry, John, Louis, Ken, Ruth, Allan, Andrew, Greg, Robert and Sean. Dear brother-in-law to Nelson Bacciaglia. Predeceased by his mom Molly and dad Denis, sister Marianne and brother Neil. A loving cousin, nephew and uncle to many in an extended family that he cherished.

Denis grew up in a loving family of 14 children in Demers Centre, Quebec. He graduated from Algonquin College in 1981 as an Electronics Engineering Technologist and began a rewarding career in the electrical industry that took him across Canada, to Bulgaria, Poland and Brazil, progressing to Director of Operations of the Waltham and Fort-Coulonge generating stations for Brookfield Renewable Power for a decade, and then President/CEO of Ottawa River Power Corporation.

Denis’ greatest joy was his family, and he cultivated a close relationship with each of his children, listening, celebrating their unique interests, being the wind beneath their sails. His love of the outdoors - camping, snowshoeing, skiing, hiking, kayaking, skating, gardening and chasing sunsets and sunrises on the Ottawa and Petawawa rivers - instilled in his children a sense of adventure and love of nature. Denis’ varied interests, genealogy, solar energy, star-gazing, listening to music filled up our home, especially his wonderful culinary talents, which he so loved to share with us, his elaborate meals an expression of his generous spirit.

For seven years Denis faced multiple myeloma with strength, dignity and resilience, always living life to its fullest, with joie de vivre in the simple pleasures of being with his family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Church in Chapeau QC.
Spring Interment to take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

In memory of Denis, donations to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation would be appreciated.
