Obituary for Donna Jean Buchanan (McGuire)

It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Donna Buchanan, nee McGuire, on Sunday, January 9th,2022. Mom was 89.

She was born in Windsor, Ont., where she met and married her lifelong love, Don Buchanan. They raised 7 children- Suzanne Pitcher(Wayne), Carol Doucette(Tony), Judy Nadeau(Dennis) Don Buchanan (Virginia), Lori Baldwin (Rick), Jackie Pilgrim (Ken), Derek Buchanan(Jenny).

Mom leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by our Dad, Don Buchanan, her parents, Art and Alice McGuire, brother Arthur McGuire, sons-in-law Darryl Potter, and Mark Pitcher, Kathy Buchanan and Teresa Burke.

Mom made many friends throughout her life as a Military wife. After her retirement Don and Donna enjoyed many years camping at Our Ponderosa Family Campground in Ipperwash where her trailer was a home away from home for all of her kids and her grandkids. Many wonderful years were spent by the fire, on the deck and traveling around the campsite in their golf cart.

After Dons passing, Donna moved up to the Ottawa Valley and spent her time sitting on the dock or on the back porch that overlooked the lake.

She loved to fish and go for rides on the boat. She always use to sit on the deck overlooking the water and say “would you just look at how beautiful it is?”. Donna loved her life and her family and it was obvious how very much we all loved her.

The Adult Day Program at Marianhill was a large part of her life for many years, where she met some wonderful friends along the way. She valued her friendship with her bus driver Kelly. Kelly always brought mom home laughing.

Robyn was another bright light in moms life. Robyn was involved in the Adult Day Program but mom was also fortunate enough to cross paths with Robyn when she moved into Marianhill Long Term Care. Robyn always encouraged mom and was always able to make her smile.

Although mom was 89 she knew her way around Facebook and FaceTime which was a blessing for all her family who were far away.

We are so grateful knowing the love and care that surrounded mom in her final months and we take comfort knowing she is reunited with dad and watching over us all.

Our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Heritage Manor and the second floor staff at Marianhill as well as the Adult Day Program

Cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be placed with our Dad in Windsor, this Spring.

Arrangements entrusted to the Murphy Funeral Home, Pembroke.
