Obituary for Eileen Patricia Mary Butler (Duffy)

Eileen Patricia Mary Butler (Duffy) 1940-2022.
Eileen Patricia Butler of Pembroke formerly of Ottawa and Montreal passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in her 83rdyear with family members nearby.

Born and raised in Montreal, Eileen grew up understanding the importance of family, friendship, and faith. After completing her schooling, Eileen worked at the Montreal Lithograph Company until she entered the Convent of Mary Reparatrix Detroit, MI as a postulant. She left the order before taking final vows but kept her connections with that order in Montreal throughout her life. Her strong devotion to helping others led her to take a position at the original Perley Hospital in Ottawa where she worked for 10 years, first starting as a health care aid, and eventually becoming a ward clerk. After she left the Perley, she took an administrative position at the Ottawa School Board. Eileen was an active volunteer throughout her life with various organizations including the Catholic’s Women’s League and Block Parents. More recently in her later life, she brought comfort and prayer to people who were sick or shut-in by phone. Through the years she had several lifelong friends who will dearly miss her kind and generous spirit.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Eileen. She was happiest catching up with friends and family or having a quiet moment of prayer. She loved camping, baseball, and travel, especially to Ireland, and music. Her favourite artists included Rita McNeil and Elton John. In her later years, she worked on puzzles, and a few of these beautiful puzzles are hanging on display on the walls inside Miramichi. Eileen was passionate about caring for others and protecting wildlife.

Eileen will be sadly missed by her brother William (Solange) Duffy, sister-in-law, Marie-Louise Beech, cousins Eileen Hildebrandt, Elizabeth Hildebrandt, Robert Mooney, and Kevin Mooney, as well as many extended family members and friends.

She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Kathleen Butler of Montreal, and father, William James Duffy of Ireland, brothers Gerald (Florence) Duffy, Baby James Duffy, Emmett Duffy, and Bernard Lawrence Duffy.
The family thank the staff at Miramichi Lodge for their care of Eileen.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday, June 22 from 9:30am to 11:30am at The Murphy Funeral Home, 296 Isabella St, Pembroke, ON.

A Celebration Mass for Eileen’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 12 noon at St. Columbkille’s Cathedral, 188 Renfrew Street Pembroke, ON. The service will be followed by internment at Columba's Catholic Cemetery.
