Obituary for Elvira Sanko (Orban)

Elvira Sanko

Elvie Sanko (nee Orban) of Port Colborne Ontario, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on January 2nd in her 84th year. Her blue eyes sparkled until she softly and quietly closed them forever.
Loved and cherished mother of Vicky Cybulski (Denis), Barbara Fournier (Ray), Nancy Pigeon (Bob Kramer). Loving wife of the late great Albert Sanko and survived by her best friend and devoted sister Helen Sauer (Jim).
Very proud grandmother, affectionately known as “Gag” to Derek Burnison (Sarah), Jeff Burnison (Kate), Nicholas Fournier, Jennifer Fournier, Grace Pigeon, Claire Pigeon, as well as her beautiful great grandchildren Cora, Emmett, Harper and Kayden.

Elvie worked hard her whole life and spent many years at Zellers, Port Colborne Hospital and Niagara Housing. She expressed her love through food and her greatest mission was ensuring that her loved ones were well fed.
Mom also leaves behind a huge extended family as she had a unique way of warmly connecting to everyone she met. She was a classic original, our biggest cheerleader as well as our toughest critic, as she wasn’t one to mince words. Her passing will leave a tremendous void in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
We rest easy knowing she is raising a glass with our Dad and her old chums.

We would first like to thank family and friends for supporting us for the past 20 months and to her grand-daughter Grace, as her primary caregiver for the last 8 months. Also, a special thank you to Dr. R. Lavigne, Bayshore HealthCare and the LHIN who made it possible for us to keep Mom at home.

In lieu of donations, we know Mom would appreciate if you took a moment for a random act of kindness inspired by her.

Respecting Elvie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life and burial will take place at a later date in Port Colborne, Ontario.
Arrangements entrusted to the Murphy Funeral Home, Pembroke.
