Obituary for Wayne George Daley

Wayne George Daley

Wayne passed peacefully in the presence of his wife, Marguerite and entered his Eternal Home to meet his Lord and Saviour on Monday 23, 2023. Wayne was a 4th Degree Member of Bishop Smith Assembly Pembroke and a Member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Lorrain Council, Pembroke and lived in Deep River Ontario. Wayne is survived by his loving wife Marguerite Daley (nee Baker) and his two children from a previous marriage, Mark Daley (Angela) of Auckland NZ; Ann-Marie Cowan (Andy) of Pembroke ON. Loved brother to Lynne Kelly (Rolland), of Deep River and Claude Daley (Sandra), of St. John’s NFLD. Predeceased by his sisters Gail Tennant, Claire St. Jules, brother Brent Daley and infant brother Paul James Daley. Wayne was the proud Grandfather of Erik Cowan and Nicole Cowan.

Wayne was born in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1939, to the late John O. Daley of Ottawa and Adrienne Daley (nee Spooner) of Espanola Ontario. All of us who knew Wayne, could say that he enjoyed a life of adventure. Wayne relished the opportunity to look beyond the horizon. This zeal led Wayne to join the Canadian Air Force in 1963 (Cold Lake Alta) after recently graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ottawa in 1962. His career as an Air Force Navigator and Supply Officer gave way to being decommissioned and joining the public service in the early 1970s. The highlight of his public service career came with a diplomatic posting to NATO (Brussels, Belgium) in 1983. Wayne represented Canada on multiple committees as First Secretary of Finance to the Ambassador. Wayne returned from his diplomatic tour in 1987 and completed his career 1995.

Wayne leaves behind countless friends and family who celebrate his presence in their life. He will be remembered as a competitive and avid lawn bowler, bridge player, and curler. Wayne always had a book on the go. Reading allowed Wayne to continue his life of adventure, even when his body had limitations. Wayne’s sense of humour, quick to sing a joyous song, and deep faith in God will be missed by all.
